Louisiana Farm Bureau Convention
OVERVIEW
Create a graphics package for the Louisiana Farm Bureau Annual Convention. This graphics package will be the system used from the 96th Annual Convention to 99th Annual Convention. The graphics package must translate to print, environmental signage, digital media including social media and web and broadcast media.
THE CHALLENGE
Creating a flexible graphics package for our annual convention, using original artwork showing agriculture in everyday lives.
THE SOLUTION
Each June, the Louisiana Farm Bureau gathers for its annual convention at the New Orleans Marriott—a tradition deeply rooted in the vibrant culture and history of the city. Drawing inspiration from New Orleans and its most iconic celebration, Mardi Gras, this year’s graphics package channels that same energy in a fresh, unexpected way. Rather than relying on typical motifs like beads or masks, I explored the city’s essence firsthand—visiting Mardi Gras World and wandering the French Quarter—to capture its rich architecture, layered textures, and bold color stories. The result is a cityscape that visually bridges the cultural soul of New Orleans with the heartbeat of Louisiana agriculture.
This cityscape design blends familiar landmarks—like the St. Louis Cathedral, Huey P. Long Bridge, and Superdome—with rooftop gardens, crops, and livestock, symbolizing how agriculture thrives even in urban settings. At the center stands the New Orleans Marriott, highlighted in Farm Bureau maroon, reinforcing the hotel’s significance as the convention’s home. The updated logo system balances clarity and continuity, leading into the centennial celebration, using Aerokids and Futura Round Bold for legibility across formats. The color palette—violet, gold, green, blue, and maroon—pays homage to both Mardi Gras and Farm Bureau branding, and I challenged myself to use only these five colors throughout the package for consistency and impact.
Building on the theme “agriculture is in our everyday lives,” the cityscape evolved into a more detailed, storytelling-driven piece. Ten new French Quarter-style buildings were introduced, each representing one of Louisiana’s top agricultural commodities and named after the highest-producing parish, with humorous, pop-culture-inspired names that add charm and personality. These shopfronts transform the landscape into an agricultural main street, blending education with creativity. The skyline was expanded with new and reimagined buildings, the sunset gradient was warmed for contrast, and the logo was revised and repositioned for bold clarity, tying the entire system together in a unified, vibrant tribute to Louisiana’s culture and agriculture.
